Japanese Corporate Work
In 2005 to 2007 I worked in Tokyo, designing collateral for Japanese corporations, NGO’s and other institutions, via my positions at two bi-national design agencies. This was challenging work in many ways. There were some language difficulties, and cultural differences that surfaced in regard to aesthetic sensibilities. I don’t feel that my work from this time is especially remarkable, but it honed my skills in client liaison and in many technical aspects of graphic design, especially infographics, typography and the composition of multi-page documents.
While I was immersed in Japanese corporate culture during the day, at night I was soaking up the Tokyo subpopculture via my friendship with the Trippple Nippples and other local artists and designers. This was to have a more profound influence on my creative development by the time I left Japan for the Netherlands.
